For the life of a child, changes can lead into two different directions: either they can take it in stride and go in full force, or, they can become the child that should have a few more modern horror movies be based on their reaction. Between toilet training, eating correctly, taking the correct steps, and dental hygiene, this is definitely a lot for a child to take in. The last of that list can be the most vital teaching for their hygienic future.
Having proper dental care will not only help your wallet, but it will also keep your child’s smile bright and shining. Here at Smile Magic Dentistry, we strive to keep that smile alive. And with that said, here we offer 4 tips for introducing your child to proper dental care, for those hard to teach areas.
Playful patterns. When introducing your child to anything, one of the best ways to begin the process is to make it playful. Allowing your child to see the fun part of any new learning process can not only teach them in a more rhythmic pattern, it can also allow them to look forward to either singing the song.
Conversational Pieces. One thing that I have learned as a parent is that you can always have the best communication with your child but actually talking with them, not to them. Being able to talk to your child and explain situations to them opens many lines of trust that will make them want to do more of what you ask them. Children do not understand the importance what you may be asking them, so a good conversational piece, even while they are in the middle of taking care of their teeth, is a great way to keep their attention. Knowing is half the battle.
Follow the leader. Most children will want to follow what they see their parents do on a daily basis. Because of this leadership trait that they instill in you, you should be able to get them to do this without a hitch. Also, if you get them a more kid focused tooth paste, rather than the super strong teeth whitening, enamel strengthening, mega blast stuff that may benefit you as an adult, maybe something that they can enjoy.
Do not use the force! One of the negative things that you want to stick away from is forcing them to do something that they may not want. But trying any of the above steps will help you guide your children into a good pattern for their future dental well-being.
